Dog Registration Renewals Are Due, and Fees Have Gone Up Across Tasmania

Key Dates and Fees by Council

Each council sets its own fees and early-payment date, and the expiry date is printed on your dog's registration tag. These are the 2026–27 fees for three councils in our area.

West Tamar Council (Legana, Exeter, Beaconsfield, Beauty Point)

• Desexed dog: $34 if renewed by 30 June 2026, $48 after
• Undesexed dog: $78 if renewed by 30 June 2026, $107 after

Meander Valley Council (Hadspen, Carrick)

• Desexed dog: $25.50 if paid by 31 July 2026, $48 after
• Undesexed dog: $66 if paid by 31 July 2026, $94 after

Break O'Day Council (St Marys, Fingal, Scamander)

• Desexed dog: $32.20 if paid before 30 June 2026, $45.05 after
• Undesexed dog: $57.90 if paid before 30 June 2026, $83.40 after

These fees come from each council's 2026–27 fees and charges: West Tamar, Meander Valley and Break O'Day. For Launceston, George Town, the Northern Midlands (including Longford) and Glamorgan Spring Bay (including Bicheno and Swansea), check your council's website.

What You Need to Register

• Your dog's microchip number. The registration form asks for it, and every dog must be microchipped by six months of age
• Desexing certificate if applicable, to access the lower fee tier
• Payment by your council's early-payment date to get the lower fee. An unregistered dog can attract a fine

The Tasmanian Department of Justice sets out these rules on its dog microchipping and registration page (updated 15/09/2026). It also says you must tell your council in writing within 14 days if you move, if the dog changes owner, or if the dog dies or is lost.
