Longford, home base of Adventure Vets

Longford is where the Adventure Vets day begins. Dr Kristina and Andrew depart from Longford on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings before heading out on the Tamar and Midland Highway circuits. For Longford residents, that positioning matters: travel fees start at A$22, scheduling is flexible across three weekdays, and Thursday/Friday visits are also available at per-kilometre rates. There is no need to load your animals into a car and drive to Launceston. The clinic comes to you, in the town the vet already calls home base.

Adventure Vets is available in Longford on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from $22. Thursday and Friday visits can also be arranged at per-kilometre rates from Longford itself.

The travel fee to Legana starts from $33. This covers the West Tamar Highway route to Legana and Grindelwald. The standard consult is $125. Additional charges may apply based on distance and complexity of situation.

Adventure Vets knows Longford pets better than anyone else

  • Three days a week, from your own backyard

Most mobile vet services visit a suburb once a week on a fixed circuit. Longford gets Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday — plus Thursday and Friday on request. That kind of flexibility is rare outside Launceston itself. If your pet needs a revisit soon after an initial consult, or if something comes up mid-week, there is a good chance a slot is available without waiting seven days. This is not a once-a-week service for Longford. It is a three-day-a-week one.

  • The right service for older animals

Longford has one of the older age profiles in the Northern Midlands, with the 60–69 cohort being the largest group in the 2021 census. Older residents often have older pets: dogs who have been in the same house for a decade, cats who have never left the property, animals managing chronic conditions that require regular check-ins rather than single-visit fixes. Adventure Vets is well set up for this kind of care. Dr Kristina manages chronic disease, medication reviews and ongoing monitoring at home, without the stress of repeated clinic trips for animals who find travel hard.

  • Farms, paddocks and multiple animals in a single visit

Agriculture, forestry and fishing account for nearly 9% of Longford employment — one of the highest rates of any town on the circuit. Many Longford households have dogs that work or roam, cats that are semi-outdoor, and sometimes rabbits, chooks or other animals that rarely see a vet because getting them all to a clinic is not practical. Adventure Vets can see multiple animals in the same visit at A$99 per additional animal. Dr Kristina and Andrew work through each one at home, in one session. No separate trips, no separate waiting rooms.

  • Home is where the accurate picture is

A dog who limps at home but settles in a clinic, a cat who seems anxious for no identifiable reason, an older animal whose movement has been gradually changing over months — these are patterns that home visits are designed to catch. Dr Kristina assesses your animal in the environment where the behaviour actually occurs. That context changes what is visible and what conclusions can be drawn. For Longford’s established households and long-term pet owners, this is often the difference between an informed plan and a guess.

Adventure Vets offer a valued 'at home' service so important when we are 150kms away from the closest clinic. Whilst they don't offer surgical procedures at this stage everything else is no problem. They have welcomed our rescue dogs our puppy and helped us farewell our senior dog with empathy and care. We thank you very much!

Kristina came to our house to check over and vaccinate our cat before he was boarded. It was the best experience for us and Bluey.. he was comfortable in his home and the care and attention to detail was second to none. A great flexible caring service- wouldn't hesitate to use again! 🐱

Adventure Vet lives in Longford too

The most common booking patterns from established rural towns on the Monday/Wednesday circuit include: routine health checks and vaccination catch-ups for animals who have not seen a vet recently, mobility and pain management reviews for older dogs, and multi-animal visits where the household has two or more species to see. Home euthanasia is also a meaningful part of the service for a community with an older demographic — the ability to say goodbye to a long-term companion in a familiar place, without a clinic trip, matters.

Frequently asked questions

How many days a week does Adventure Vets visit Longford?

Three regular days: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursday and Friday visits are also available at per-kilometre rates on request. Longford is the base point for the circuit, which means it is the most scheduling-flexible location on the route.

What is the travel fee for Longford?

A$22. Longford is the departure base for the Adventure Vets circuit, making it the lowest travel fee available. The standard consult is A$125. Additional animals seen in the same visit are A$99 each.

Can you help manage an ongoing condition in my older dog or cat?

Yes. Chronic disease management, medication reviews and comfort care for older animals are a core part of the service. Dr Kristina can set up a home-visit schedule for regular monitoring without your animal needing to travel to a clinic repeatedly.

Do you see farm animals or animals other than cats and dogs?

Adventure Vets routinely sees dogs, cats, rabbits and chooks. Selected large-animal work is also available. Contact the clinic before booking to discuss your specific situation.

What happens if my pet needs treatment Adventure Vets cannot provide at home?

Some things require clinic equipment: major surgery, complex imaging, overnight stays and emergency procedures. When this is the case, Dr Kristina will organise a referral, share your pet’s history, and help plan the clinic visit. She can then continue at-home follow-up and medication management once your pet is back.

What do I do if my pet needs emergency care?

Adventure Vets operates by appointment during business hours only. For overnight emergencies, contact Animal Emergency Hospital Launceston on (03) 6344 7000 or Animal Emergency Centre Hobart on (03) 6244 7667. Save both numbers before you need them.
